Stats from Cranford game on 4/20/11

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 21, 2011

Coach Hannaford, who is also our statistician, could not make this game so the stats are based on my own memory.

Sloppy win on a sloppy field but a win is a win with the Chiefs prevailing over Cranford by the score of 5-2.

Goals were scored by: Marenberg, Castagna, Argenziano and TWO for Henry Clyde!

Connor Morang was his usual solid rock in the cage with one of the two goals scored against him being on man-down.

We also had two goals erased due to penalties so that is something we will be sure to avoid in the future.

Next game is tonight 4/21/11 vs. Summit at 6pm.

GO CHIEFS!

Great Start to Our 2011 Season (stats, etc.)

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 5, 2011

The 2011 6th grade Chiefs are off to a great start.  On Saturday March 26th our first and second year players soundly defeated Old Bridge by the score of 9-2 .  Hudson Barth and Cole Herrigel were multiple goal scorers and some of our new players got their first goals of their lacrosse careers.

The next day on Sunday March 27th, our 3+ year players took on perennial power Bridgewater.  In a game that was closer than the score reflected, the Chiefs were defeated 5-2.

This past weekend all three of our squads were in action at the East Brunswick Round Robin.  In Game 1, the Red and White squads defeated Hillsborough by the score 3-2.  Goals were scored by Michael Kingsley, Hudson Barth and Eric Nieves.  Connor Morang was solid in the cage.  In Game 2, the White and Blue squads beat East Brunswick 5-0.  Mark Pasquariello got the shutout in the cage.  Nicholas Castagna had 2 goals and Ryan Pope, Michael Barletta, and Doug Anderson (with a longstick!) all had a goal.  Brendan McCormick and Connor Morang each had an impressive 5 ground balls.

Overall the team shot 25%  and 22% in the games on Saturday so this is an area that needs to be improved upon.

Many of our players then had a great time at the Big City Classic on Sunday April 3! ===================>>>>

This weekend we have Millburn at home on Saturday (Red/Blue squads) and are away at Branchburg on Sunday (Red/White squads).

GO CHIEFS! —- HONOR THE GAME!

Awesome Season Ends With A Big Win!

Posted by Barry Marenberg on June 6, 2010

Hard to believe we started out this season on a cold morning back at the beginning of March and now we have completed 20+ games.  What a great season we had!  We ended up with more wins than any other Chiefs team ever.  I – along with all our team coaches – are very proud of every player on the team this year.  Everyone gave their all and improved over the course of the season.  The Chiefs are now known throughout the league as a force to be reckoned with.  Below are stats from yesterday’s big win over Cranford.  Season stats will be communicated at the End of Season Team Party (details will be sent via e-mail).

June 5 vs. Cranford (Chiefs win 8-1)

Scoring Percentage: 42%.  8 goals on 19 shots

– Goals: goals were scored by: Castagna (2), Carney (2), Haddad, Barth, Nieves and Murer (first goal as a Chief!).

– Assists: Castagna (1) and Wong (1)

– Saves: James Duffy had a shutout first half in the cage and Connor Morang finished up the game (and season) with his usual stellar play.

– Face Offs: we won 3 of 4 faceoffs.

– Ground Balls: the team picked up 11 GBs.

– Penalties: we committed 4 penalties and served time for all of them.

As I wind down from this great season I will have more to say here so check back often.  See you all at the party!

(3) Basking Ridge Game (Saturday 5/15)

In this high scoring game for the Chiefs, goals were scored by: Castagna (4), Nieves (2), Pencek, Herrigel, Wong, Reynolds and O’Halloran for his first ever lacrosse goal!

A Bump in the Road – Stats from Loss to Branchburg on 5/8/10

Posted by Barry Marenberg on May 11, 2010

This past Saturday we came up against a very hungry Branchburg team yesterday and had a bit of a breakdown of our fundamentals. We chalk it up to a learning experience and put it behind us.  Here are the stats from the game:

– Scoring Percentage: 15% – 3 goals on 20 shots on goal for a scoring percentage of 14%.  We also missed the goal a number of times which could have led to a different end result.

 – Goals: Goals were scored by: Castagna (2) and Carney.

Assists: Eric Nieves assisted on all 3 goals.

Saves: Connor Morang made 4 saves and successfully cleared 2 of them.

Face-Offs: won 5 out of 7  face-offs.

Ground Balls: the team picked up 31 ground balls in the game.  Turner Haddad and Eric Nieves had 4 ground balls each.  Cole  and  Ryan Pope each had 3.

Penalties: we committed 4 penalties and served time for all of them.

Busy week ahead:

Millburn on Tuesday night at 7pm – GL

Watchung Hills on Wednesday night 7pm at the Old Stirling Turf Field in Watchung.  Directions to field are on Chiefs website.

Practice on Thursday night – 6pm.

Lets get back on track and continue racking up the WINS!

Our Winning Streak Continues… + Stats, etc.

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 29, 2010

We had another resounding win last night vs. a scrappy Scotch Plains-Fanwood Team.  Final score was 8-1.  More and more our games (and the wins) are becoming a TOTAL team win with every player on every line contributing in some way.  Awesome!

Here are stats from the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Game:

– Scoring Percentage: We shot 57%!!  8 goals on 15 shots.

 – Goals: Goals were scored by Carney (3), Duffy (2), Castagna (1), and McCormick (2).

Assists: On the 8 goals scored, 4 were assisted.  Two assists each by Castagna and Wong.

Save/Clears: Connor Morang made 2 saves and successfully cleared 2 out of 3 times.

Face-Offs: won 7 out of 12 face-offs.

Ground Balls: the team picked up 31 ground balls in the game.

Penalties: we committed 5 penalties.

While the above stats appear to focus on the OFFENSE, its time to recognize our defenseman who have been playing exceptionally well and shutting down the opposing teams shooters.  A big shout out to Mario Argenziano, Turner Haddad, Zander Marenberg, Brian Biskaduros, Sean Hannaford and Doug Anderson (who also doubles as our very important long stick middie).  And of course we can never forget the play of our stellar goalie, Connor Morang.  Great job guys in playing hard-nosed physical defense.  Keep it up!

We are now off to Princeton on Saturday for what promises to be a great Tournament for our team.

GO CHIEFS!!!

Stats from Cranford Game (4/21/10). Another Win!

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 22, 2010

A win is a win.  It seemed a sloppy game last night but the weather was a bit crummy and it was getting darker and darker as the game progressed.  We obviously all still came together to pull out a scrappy win.

– Scoring Percentage: We shot 26%.  Six goals on 23 shots.  There were a number of missed shots and we will work on shooting more accurately in practice.

 – Goals: Goals were scored by Carney (Hat Trick!), Nieves (1), Castagna ( 1), and Barth (1) for his first ever goal as a lacrosse player.  Great job guys.  I’m looking forward to getting scoring from more players in future games.

Assists: On the 6 goals scored, 3 were assisted.  Not bad.

Save/Clears: Connor Morang was back in goal for us this week and played very well.  Connor had 7 saves and successfully cleared 4 out of 5 times!

Face-Offs: won 5 out of 9 face-offs.  Better than 50%,

Ground Balls: the team picked up 23 ground balls in the game.  This is less than our previous game and in part attributable to the fact that we kept the ball in the air much more than the prior games.

Penalties: we committed 2 minutes of penalties.  Much better.

Full weekend ahead of us.  Westfield on Saturday at GL at 1pm.  Maplewood on Sunday at Columbia H.S. at 1:30pm.  Both Westfield and Maplewood are very competitive teams so the Chiefs will need to be fully on their game.  I know we can do it!

 See you on the field.
