Lightning Lacrosse Thunderbolt Tournament Weekend

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 27, 2011

Saturday is Tournament Day.  The weather is supposed to be AWESOME  as we head to West Windsor, NJ to participate again in the Lightning Lacrosse Thunderbolt Lacrosse Tournament.  In the past, this tournament has been a great day for our teams and an opportunity for our players to play against top-notch teams from towns we wouldn’t normally see in the course of our season.

We are slated to play some very skilled teams.  Our first three games are as follows:

8:45am Game 1 vs. Montgomery Youth Lacrosse – Field 4

11:00am Game 2 vs. Rumson-Fair Haven – Field 4

1:15pm Game 3 vs. Nomad Lacrosse Club – Field 4

We will play a fourth game at 3pm or 4:15pm depending on how we do in the above 3 games.

All players should arrive at the field by 8am.  Directions to the West Windsor Community Park are here: Directions to West Windsor Community Park .

Players should also do a full equipment check prior to hitting the road on Saturday morning.  You need all your equipment, your full uniform AND your reversible practice pinney.  Be sure to bring snacks and plenty of drinks with you on Saturday.

Get a good night’s rest on Friday night and come out ready to play hard on Saturday.

HONOR THE GAME — GO CHIEFS!!

Stats from Cranford game on 4/20/11

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 21, 2011

Coach Hannaford, who is also our statistician, could not make this game so the stats are based on my own memory.

Sloppy win on a sloppy field but a win is a win with the Chiefs prevailing over Cranford by the score of 5-2.

Goals were scored by: Marenberg, Castagna, Argenziano and TWO for Henry Clyde!

Connor Morang was his usual solid rock in the cage with one of the two goals scored against him being on man-down.

We also had two goals erased due to penalties so that is something we will be sure to avoid in the future.

Next game is tonight 4/21/11 vs. Summit at 6pm.

GO CHIEFS!

Lacrosse Wisdom

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 14, 2011

Saw this on another lacrosse website and it really hit home.  So much truth in something written over 2000 years ago!:

“Invincibility lies in the defense, the possibility of victory in the attack.”
- Sun Tzu

“Sun Tzu – The Art Of War” is an ancient Chinese text, over 2000 years old, covering in-depth the mechanical, philosophical, and strategic aspects of warfare.

The exact identity of the author is unknown and the best estimate of when it was written is between 400-320 B.C. Yet the collection of essays that makes up the Art of War is still revered by the worlds greatest military minds and in many ways is as relevant today as it was over 2 millennia ago. And not only is the Art of War relevant to warfare, but in a philosophical and strategic level, is relevant to sports like lacrosse and football, and in some ways to any form of competition.

Great Start to Our 2011 Season (stats, etc.)

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 5, 2011

The 2011 6th grade Chiefs are off to a great start.  On Saturday March 26th our first and second year players soundly defeated Old Bridge by the score of 9-2 .  Hudson Barth and Cole Herrigel were multiple goal scorers and some of our new players got their first goals of their lacrosse careers.

The next day on Sunday March 27th, our 3+ year players took on perennial power Bridgewater.  In a game that was closer than the score reflected, the Chiefs were defeated 5-2.

This past weekend all three of our squads were in action at the East Brunswick Round Robin.  In Game 1, the Red and White squads defeated Hillsborough by the score 3-2.  Goals were scored by Michael Kingsley, Hudson Barth and Eric Nieves.  Connor Morang was solid in the cage.  In Game 2, the White and Blue squads beat East Brunswick 5-0.  Mark Pasquariello got the shutout in the cage.  Nicholas Castagna had 2 goals and Ryan Pope, Michael Barletta, and Doug Anderson (with a longstick!) all had a goal.  Brendan McCormick and Connor Morang each had an impressive 5 ground balls.

Overall the team shot 25%  and 22% in the games on Saturday so this is an area that needs to be improved upon.

Many of our players then had a great time at the Big City Classic on Sunday April 3! ===================>>>>

This weekend we have Millburn at home on Saturday (Red/Blue squads) and are away at Branchburg on Sunday (Red/White squads).

GO CHIEFS! —- HONOR THE GAME!
