The 2013 8th grade Chiefs Lacrosse team has sped to a fast 4-0 record through its second week of the lacrosse season.

After our initial win over Bridgewater in week 1, the team defeated Millburn on Saturday April 6 and then won both games on Sunday April 7 soundly defeating Hillsborough and then East Brunswick.

Great job fellas.  Keep up the great work!

Chiefs 2013 – Back at it again!

Posted by Barry Marenberg on April 4, 2013

Here we go again – Chiefs season has commenced yet again.  This year will be my final year as a coach as I’m now with the 8th grade team.  Its been a long time and hoping this is the most successful season yet.  Got a great group this season.

We opened up last Saturday with a big 10-1 win over Bridgewater.   Scoring game from numerous Chiefs including some longpoles!  Full weekend ahead with a home game on Saturday 4/6 vs. Millburn and then two games on Sunday (Hillsborough and East Brunswick).  Hoping for great weather and great lax from my team!

Coach B Is Back!

Posted by Barry Marenberg on June 30, 2012

Hello everyone!  I’m back.  First I should apologize for my long absence from this blog.  Writing this blog has always been something that I truly enjoy doing.  It allows me to combine my passion for the sport of lacrosse and my enjoyment for writing.  There have been so many changes in my life since my last post back in March and those changes caused (forced?) me to lay off my writing to attend to so many other priorities.  New job, coaching a spring 7th grade Chiefs team of 40 boys, watching my daughter in her first year of lacrosse, etc.  Well, its summer now and Zander has already played in 2 of his 4 summer tournaments and I finally have some time to sit down and write.

I’ll spend some posts catching you all up on things that took place through the Spring and some posts on some new things.  Stick with me.  I hope not to have to take these extended absences again.

HONOR THE GAME!

2012 Chiefs Lacrosse 7th Grade Season Starts Tonight!

Posted by Barry Marenberg on March 1, 2012

It was great to see all the returning parents last night and meet parents of our new players at the Team Parents Meeting.

Our first practice is tonight from 6:30-8pm on the Snyder Avenue Turf in Berkeley Heights.  I am looking forward to getting the team started on what promises to be a very fun and competitive season.    All players should arrive by 6:15 to get their equipment on and sized properly, etc.

Still not sure about a time for Saturday’s practice.  I’ll keep you posted.

HONOR THE GAME!
Go Chiefs!

So you want to play lax in college…?

Posted by Barry Marenberg on February 22, 2012

I haven’t had much time recently to write any new/original stuff for the blog but when I see a great post elsewhere, I want you all to know about it!

Recently, my good friend, Connor Wilson over at Lacrosse Allstars (www.laxallstars.com) for whom I write occasionally put up a great article post about what it takes to play lacrosse in college.  I know my son, and the players that I am coaching this Spring (7th grade) are five years away from starting college, but it’s never too early to learn about what it takes.  Connor’s tongue-in-cheek post can be viewed by clicking this link: So You Want To Play Lacrosse in College.

Give it a read.

Chiefs Lacrosse Partners With Trilogy Lacrosse for 2012 Spring Season

Posted by Barry Marenberg on February 18, 2012

For the 2012 Spring season Chiefs Lacrosse has partnered with Trilogy Lacrosse to offer a fantastic lacrosse pre-season clinic to all our Chiefs teams as well as a separate clinic for all Chiefs coaches.

Trilogy Lacrosse is one of the nation’s top youth and high school programs and has an established reputation as The Leader in Lacrosse Education. Trilogy Lacrosse has taught over 10,000 student-athletes across the nation.  Their students have continued onto to some of the most prestigious college and universities in the country.  Trilogy is run by 5 National Directors who are considered to be 5 of the best lacrosse players in the world: Ryan Boyle (Princeton, Team USA,  Boston Cannons), Mitch Belisle (Cornell, Team USA, Boston Cannons), Matt Striebel (Princeton, Team USA, Rochester Rattlers), Ned Crotty (Duke, Team USA, Rochester Rattlers) and Greg Downing (Fairfield Univ., Boston Cannons).

On March 17th, Trilogy National Director Matt Striebel will join the Chiefs teams for a day of training and lacrosse education.  Matt will work with our teams on all aspects of the game, both offense and defense, starting with fundamentals and working up to more advanced and innovative individual skill development and team strategy.

In addition to working with our players, Trilogy will also be providing our coaches with in-depth training in the Trilogy lacrosse education program.  We believe this is a great opportunity for our coaches to improve their coaching skills.  This is just another way in which the Chiefs Board of Directors is dedicated to improving all aspects of  our program and the experience for all of our players.

As a coach and a huge lacrosse fan, I am really excited that my players will get to work with Matt Striebel and that I, along with all the Chiefs coaches will get to learn from Matt, Ryan and the other Trilogy National Directors.  I can’t think of a better way to get our players ready for the start of the 2012 season!

For those of you in my area, Chiefs Lacrosse registration is now open for Spring 2012.   Go to www.chiefslacrossenj.org and click the “Registration” link on the left-hand column.  After December 31st, late fees kick in so register now and avoid the late fees.

Many of our 7th and 8th grade Chiefs will be playing in the ISP Winter lax league as Full Force Lacrosse.  Our first game is THIS Saturday (12/3) at 9:30pm.  If you are not playing with us this Winter, we invite you to come on out and cheer us on.

I will also be co-coaching the New Providence High School lacrosse team in the ISP Winter League.  I’m really looking forward to working with these older boys.

Busy winter!!  No matter what you are doing this winter and what sport you are involved in, be sure to keep a stick in your hands and stay in shape.   Spring is just around the corner….

See you on the field!  HONOR THE GAME!
